CORPORATE FINANCE - SENIOR ENGAGEMENT MANAGER

Location: London

Our clients Corporate Finance and Advisory practice serves principal investment companies to identify and evaluate opportunities to deliver superior returns on their funds. Clients include leading global buyout funds, venture capital funds, activist investors, hedge funds as well as the principal investment business of banks, insurers and asset managers.

Our clients Corporate Finance practice offers strategic advantage to their clients by being focused exclusively on the Financial Services sector. For this reason we require all interested candidates to have completed/participated on a good selection of F/S deals.

An understanding of the consultancy process, either gained within a strategy consultancy or an in-house corporate strategy group, is going to be a major consideration point for the successful candidate.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Working closely with colleagues in London and other offices globally, the successful candidate will work on the Origination and Execution of Corporate Finance opportunities across the European market.  The role will hold a greater focus on execution but some experience of origination will be required.
The candidate will be expected to work with minimal supervision and would be expected to be able to lead multiple projects from inception through to close.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be involved in marketing to a number of different financial buyers, private equity firms and corporate clients at any time and act as a key member of the execution process, being capable of working with clients from the initial ‘strategy’ stage through to and including issues surrounding post-merger integration.
  • Be instrumental in the growth of our client's Corporate Finance business through mentoring of junior members.
  • Play a key role in preparing proposals and attending business development meetings
  • Lead execution in all key aspects including building corporate models, valuation, assisting in the formulation of investment strategy, due diligence and evaluation of transaction.
  • Maintain close relationships with other internal teams to ensure the firm’s full suite of capabilities is leveraged and contributes to an efficient execution of business.
  • Keep abreast of developments in the Corporate Finance community including economic trends impacting the Corporate Finance sector’s needs and new product developments.
  • Assist in the internal networking required throughout the firm to generate new business leads, help maintain relationships with clients, and promote the corporate finance product within the firm as well as the group.

Personal Specification:

The successful candidate should have:

  • Extensive experience of the financial institutions sector ideally across a number of sub-sectors, i.e. banking, asset management, insurance.
  • Extensive Investment Banking transaction experience through completed and pending deals, including large cap exposure and a knowledge and understanding of related financial products, in particular in the area of equity capital markets.
  • Well developed oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with individuals, organisations and clients.
  • Fluent in English and at least one other European language.
  • Strong academic record. MBA an advantage. 
  • An understanding of the consultancy process, either gained within a strategy consultancy or an in-house corporate strategy group, would be beneficial.

The Project Team Structure – Roles

A project team usually comprises two directors, a senior engagement manager/junior engagement manager and 1-3 consultants. The non-Director team members typically vary in level of experience, and work on only one project at a time. Your role will develop in accordance with your experience, maturity, and ambition and will not be limited by artificial barriers - a true meritocracy. Initially, you will focus on analysis, such as evaluating internal client data, performing financial analysis and projections, and interviewing participants in the client’s marketplace. As you demonstrate your skill mastery, you will assume broader responsibilities, including management of client relationships, determining the appropriate analyses required to address a client concern, and providing ‘thought leadership’ and creativity.

The Available Position: Job Manager

Responsibilities include:

  • Oversight of structuring and completing select project module(s)
  • Guidance to more junior consulting team member(s) in planning analyses and research, distilling findings, and packaging and communicating results
  • Significant client interactions
  • Support to Senior Engagement Manager and Directors for overall development and integration of findings into client deliverables and communications
  • Expected to progress to the Senior Engagement Manager level within 12-36 months

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or advanced degree from a top academic program
  • Minimum of 3 years professional experience, preferably with 1-2 years experience in any of the following:
  1. management consulting firm with capital markets and/or corporate banking projects
  2. capital markets related financial services firm
  3. investment banking analyst program (sales & trading, equities research, M&A, corporate finance or capital markets)
  • Demonstrated intellectual skills: the ability to structure problems logically, to develop innovative yet practical solutions, ability to identify implications and synthesize results
  • Solid interpersonal skills: to work effectively as members of a team, to communicate clearly with both colleagues and clients, and to take initiative and leadership both internally and with clients

CONSULTANT/SENIOR CONSULTANT (PARIS AND MADRID)

Senior Level – MSc or PhD with 3-5 years experience

We have an immediate opening for a Consultant or Sr. Consultant level hire to join our clients growing European Securities & Finance (S&F) practice. They are expanding the practice to include one dedicated S&F team member to be based in our Paris office and one in Madrid.  This individual would have a reporting line into the head of the European S&F practice based in our London office.

Candidates applying for this position must have a MSc or Ph.D. in economics or finance, with a strong background in financial and econometrics modeling. Three to five years of experience working in an investment bank, agency or consulting firm is preferred.  Candidates must have strong economics experience as well as finance or commodities industry experience and be comfortable performing quantitative analysis on complex and challenging business problems.   Additionally applicants must have a solid understanding of financial markets, financial intermediaries, institutional investors, over-the-counter and exchange-traded derivatives, and other complex financial products.

Candidates must exhibit excellent writing and presentation skills and be fluent in either French/Spanish and English.  A high level aptitude with regard to desktop tools such as Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint is required and applicants must be adept at online research.   Prior experience working with analytical software such as SAS, Fincad, Visual Basic, and C/C++ is preferred.

The successful candidate will work independently within a team environment on client advisory projects and litigation casework related to quantitative financial and economic analysis across several industries and markets. Areas include the valuation of securities and other assets, assessing and calculating financial damages, and econometric modeling of financial and other related markets. Representative projects include analyzing damages, materiality, and causation in both securities fraud class actions and opt-out claims involving individual securities and funds; the impact of alleged accounting fraud on stock prices; class certification and market efficiency related issues in securities class actions; the effects of alleged insider trading on stock prices and tender offer premiums; damages and liability in derivative lawsuits; and valuation of financial assets.

Consultants and Senior Consultants are responsible for executing projects; managing junior economists; working with clients and developing client relationships; creating quantitative analysis and performing quantitative assessments; applying knowledge of financial markets to solve complex business problems; preparing memos, expert reports and testimony as needed, and presenting results in a clear and articulate manner to clients and team members.
